Exploring the Romantic Arts through the music of Chopin

Using 19th century classical music masters, Chopin and Liszt, as points of departure, students will explore music dance, poetry, and painting from the 19th century and create their own paintings and writings inspired by selected works from these greats. By the end of the program, students will be familiar with several masterpieces of Chopin and Liszt, will have created 3-4 paintings, writing a short story, a poem, and learned to dance the waltz and the mazurka. Every day we will approach at least 3 art forms. Students will share their work with each other. On the final evening there will be a concert and presentation for parents and students.

This camp will be an exciting 7 day, interactive arts camp lead by Juilliard facilitators, Chelsea Ainsworth, Irene Wong, Jonathan Estabrooks, and Jamario Stills. Our interactive way of learning involves music, dance, and theater which will challenge students to think outside the box, to think in terms of possibilities rather than probabilities, and to create a strong vocabulary of basic artistic skills. There will be a final performance held on August 14th, demonstrating the skills the students have learned within the camp, which the parents of the participants are invited to see. M.O.S.A.I.C believes that through art we can further demonstrate the uniqueness and vitality of each individual, as well as the inspiring results in which art produces.
Classical Jam Summer Fest (9 – 18 years)

Classical Jam (CJ) will be exploring fun workshops, group games, and Classical Master Jam (a cross between a masterclass and jamming together with CJ) with participants. Lessons and chamber music coachings are also included! Workshops include: Improvise With Us, Right Here, "Write" Now, Groovy Rhythms, and Discover New Musical Lenses. The final day of the Summer Fest will end with students showcasing the works studied, and a lively and engaging performance by Classical Jam. For the budding pianist to the more advanced students. Take your playing and musical understanding to the next level! Students will enjoy classes in ensemble playing, theory, keyboard improvisation, musical styles from a piano perspective and private lessons. The week also includes special workshops, lecture/performances by faculty members, pizza party and a concert by the participating students at the end of the week. Requirements: a minimum of 2 years of lessons or ability to play hands together in various positions.

A two week program designed to unleash the artist within. Classes in dance, movement, acting, improve, theatrical makeup, art, set and costume design. Camp for Strings

Junior Camp for Strings

Similar to the String Camp, this camp is designed for less advanced students who can read music. Violin, viola or cello students should have completed at least 1 year of study on their instrument. This course is a must for families who want to get a head start in establishing a musical atmosphere at home that will build enthusiasm in children for making music. Once the child is finally old enough to begin private music lessons, making music can easily become a natural part of the child’s daily experience if certain guidelines, expectations, and principles are followed. In these sessions parents and children learn about the Suzuki philosophy for music education, its pedagogical principles, the basics of violin playing, and how to play easy tunes.
Creative Yoga for Kids (6-10 years)

This fun filled class will introduce children to easy Yoga postures that help promote control of their young muscles and balance. Calling all cellists! Have fun performing in ensembles of three, four or more while gaining a foundation in ensemble playing. Learn standard repertoire and improve essential music skills including listening, sight-reading and phrasing under the guidance of WMC faculty. Open to students of all ages and levels. Pre-requisite: Completion of Suzuki Cello Volume 1 or comparable.
Chamber Music Coaching
Once per week for 5 weeks; times arranged with WMC faculty
Coachings – 45 minutes each - $175 per 5 week session.
WMC’s chamber music program open to intermediate to advanced students. Conducted by WMC’s distinguished faculty, chamber music groups will be formed based on age, skill-level, and teacher recommendation. If you would like the opportunity to experience one of the most extraordinary forms of music-making, ask your private teacher for their recommendation to participate in the program. Ensemble coaching times will be arranged based on your availability and those of other students.
WMC will do its very best to match students with other students based on age, availability, and experience and will inform the candidate before the Summer Session begins as to placement.
Music for Children with Special Needs (3 years and up)

Study the fundamentals of playing blues guitar. Soloing, chord progressions and stylistic differences are explored. Acoustic or electric the fundamentals are the same just applied differently. Flat pick and fingerstyle playing are also included. Find out how the greats such as BB King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Eric Clapton do it. All levels welcome.

At WMC, we understand how difficult it is to continue music lessons through the summer months. To accommodate those families whose summer schedules are often punctuated by vacations, family time, summer camps, and other summer endeavors, we have created a flexible scheduling component to summer lessons. Individual lessons can be arranged on an individual basis, or purchased as a group of lessons. A small savings can be made by purchasing a package of 5 lessons.
